Co-founded the Milan Mirror newspaper in 1965 with husband Bob Parkins; operated Green Acres Farm with over 300 dairy cows and a tomato packing shed employing hundreds

Opened Dorris' Ceramics in 1970 and volunteered with PTA, Freed-Hardeman College Associates, Graball Community Center, 4-H, YMCA, and Daughters of the American Revolution (50-year member)

Received Governor's Trophy as Tennessee's Handicapped Citizen of the Year in 1968 from Governor Buford Ellington; named Milan Woman of the Year in 1982

Expresses sympathy and condolences to her surviving family, including eight children, twelve grandchildren, and great-grandchildren
