Faculty members, including those with tenure, may be suspended without pay during termination investigations if a university president or chancellor finds adequate cause for termination exists

Applies to institutions governed by the Tennessee Board of Regents, state university boards, and the University of Tennessee system

Chief executive officers of public higher education institutions selected on or after July 1, 2026, require confirmation by both the Tennessee Senate and House of Representatives

If either legislative chamber fails to confirm a chief executive officer within 90 calendar days after the next regular legislative session, the officer's employment is automatically terminated

Policy adoption provisions take effect immediately upon passage; all other provisions take effect July 1, 2026
