Personally identifying information of elected state and local public officials held by government entities becomes confidential and exempt from public inspection

Confidential information must be redacted from documents, but the exemption cannot be used to deny access to otherwise public records that happen to contain such information

Law enforcement agencies, courts, and other government agencies retain access to the protected information for official functions

Personnel records of elected officials that are currently open under state law remain open and unaffected

Elected officials may expressly authorize release of their own protected information; effective July 1, 2026
