Blood banks must comply with physician orders for autologous blood donations (donating your own blood for your future use) and directed blood donations (donating for a specific patient's planned procedure)

Hospitals must allow patients scheduled for medical procedures to provide autologous or directed blood donations when ordered by a physician, with refusal permitted only when medically contraindicated or incompatible with safety standards

All donations remain subject to existing federal and state requirements for donor eligibility, testing, labeling, screening, storage, and compatibility

Blood banks and hospitals may charge reasonable fees to cover administrative costs of facilitating these donations
