Counties with charter governments cannot reduce the sheriff's budget below the previous fiscal year's amount for personnel salaries, benefits, or operational expenditures without the sheriff's written approval

Sheriffs gain authority to approve or disapprove any budget amendment that would reduce personnel, operational, or capital expenditures below the level proposed by the sheriff

County legislative bodies may only amend a sheriff's budget with the sheriff's written consent, or by overriding the sheriff's disapproval with a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the entire legislative body

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law
