TennCare (Tennessee's Medicaid program) is prohibited from providing coverage or reimbursement for medical procedures intended to enable individuals to identify with or live as a gender inconsistent with their sex, or to treat distress from gender-sex discordance

Prohibited procedures include surgeries and the prescribing or administering of puberty blockers and hormones (androgens or estrogens) for gender-related purposes

Exceptions allow coverage for treating congenital defects, precocious puberty, disease, or physical injury—though gender dysphoria, gender identity disorder, and gender incongruence are explicitly excluded from the definition of "disease"

Individuals who began covered treatment before the effective date may continue receiving the same procedures through March 31, 2027, if their physician certifies in writing that stopping would be harmful
