Candidates in local elections (county, city, and school board) may challenge election results within 10 business days if they believe administrative errors occurred.

Local election results cannot be certified while a challenge is pending; other elections on the same ballot may proceed with certification.

County election commissions must investigate challenges within 15 business days and forward all evidence to the state election commission.

The state election commission has 21 business days to rule on challenges and may order a special election if errors could change the outcome.

Filing a challenge does not prevent candidates from also pursuing a formal election contest under existing law.
