Annuity claims for emergency responders killed in the line of duty must be filed within 3 years of either the death date or the date of a final official determination that the death occurred in the line of duty, whichever is later.

Denied claims for law enforcement officers can be appealed to the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission within 1 year of denial, with binding authority to issue final determinations.

Denied claims for firefighters or volunteer rescue squad workers can be appealed to the Commission on Firefighting Personnel Standards and Education within 1 year of denial.

Denied claims for emergency medical technicians can be appealed to the Tennessee Emergency Medical Services Board within 1 year of denial.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law and applies retroactively to March 1, 2020.
