Local governments requiring annual in-service training for certified local correctional officers can receive an $800 pay supplement per officer from the state institute, paid directly to officers in addition to regular salary

Training must be institute-approved, at least 40 hours in duration, and appropriate to the officer's rank and department size; officers must complete 8 months of full-time service to qualify

Officers on active military duty during armed conflict who cannot attend training remain eligible for the supplement; beneficiaries of officers who die in the line of duty before completing training also receive the payment

Supplements cannot replace existing salaries or normal raises, are not counted toward retirement calculations, and officers who voluntarily terminate employment forfeit eligibility

Effective July 1, 2026; applies to jail administrators, jailers, deputy sheriffs, guards, and correctional officers employed solely in correctional capacity by local governments
