Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis is honored for being named 2025 Tennessean of the Year by The Tennessean editorial board for his leadership during two major tragedies

Sheriff Davis led emergency response efforts during the August 2021 Waverly floods that killed 20 people and the October 10, 2025 Accurate Energetic Systems munitions plant explosion that killed 16 people

Davis has served in law enforcement since 1986 and was elected Humphreys County Sheriff in 2006 at age 37, continuing to serve in that role

He has advocated for first responder mental health, encouraging deputies to seek counseling and working to reduce stigma around mental health care in rural communities

Davis has organized community service efforts for approximately 30 years, including fish fry fundraisers for ill residents and Angel Tree Christmas gift programs for children in need
