Hartline earned a bachelor's degree in biblical studies from Freed-Hardeman University and a master's degree in religious studies from Lipscomb University in 1998

Served in multiple church leadership roles including worship leader, teacher, elder, summer camp director, and Room in the Inn coordinator at Ashwood/Woodmont Hills Church of Christ and other congregations

Spent 20 years engaged in state and local politics, running for elected office, managing campaigns, and serving with the Wilson County GOP and Tennessee Firearms Association

Created the first-ever Homeschool World Series in 2000 and coached baseball for ten years; survived by his wife Melodie Lynn Hopkins, three children, and eleven grandchildren
