TX HB1090

Adds new eligibility requirements for volunteer deputy registrars, prohibiting appointment of individuals currently charged with a felony or with offenses committed while serving as a volunteer deputy registrar

Expands disqualifying convictions to include not only fraudulent use of identifying information (Section 32.51, Penal Code) but also any offense committed during the actual discharge of duties as a volunteer deputy registrar

Establishes automatic termination of a volunteer deputy registrar's appointment when the individual is charged with an offense allegedly committed while performing their registrar duties

Maintains existing eligibility requirements including minimum age of 18, meeting qualified voter requirements (without being registered), and restrictions on those with felony convictions who have not completed their sentences

Takes effect September 1, 2025
