Public institutions of higher education must exempt paramedics employed by Texas political subdivisions from tuition and laboratory fees for courses in emergency medical services curriculum

Exemption does not cover security deposits for loaned property, additional tuition charged under Section 54.014(a) or (f), or excess doctoral tuition charges

Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress toward a degree or certificate to continue receiving the exemption in subsequent semesters

Institutions may limit the exemption for distance education courses to 20% of maximum enrollment for those courses

Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board must adopt rules governing eligibility, certification requirements, and covered degree programs, with the exemption applying beginning fall 2025
