Expands the prohibition on firearm possession to include persons convicted of any "violent misdemeanor" in Texas, in addition to the existing restriction on those convicted of Class A misdemeanor assault involving family or household members

Defines "violent misdemeanor" as any misdemeanor offense under Texas law that includes as an element the use, attempted use, or threatened use of force against any person

Maintains the existing 5-year prohibition period on firearm possession, measured from the later of release from confinement or release from community supervision following conviction

Applies only to offenses committed on or after the effective date; prior offenses remain governed by existing law

Takes effect September 1, 2025
