Expands the list of individuals who may serve as armed security officers at public schools to include current or former licensed federal law enforcement agents authorized to carry a weapon while on duty, effective with the 2025-2026 school year

Authorizes the governor-appointed chief of school safety and security for the Texas Education Agency to carry a weapon on any public school district or open-enrollment charter school campus or facility in Texas

Requires the chief of school safety and security to be either a commissioned peace officer or a current/former licensed federal law enforcement agent authorized to carry a weapon while on duty

Creates an exemption from Penal Code Section 46.03(a)(1) prohibitions on weapons in schools for the TEA chief of school safety and security when authorized under the new provisions

Takes effect immediately with a two-thirds vote of both legislative chambers, otherwise takes effect September 1, 2025
