TX HB1628

Allows peace officers to request transfer of their children to another campus within the same district or to any other school district in Texas, regardless of whether the districts have an existing transfer agreement

Requires school districts to approve these transfer requests unless the receiving district or campus is at full student capacity or has more transfer requests than available positions

Prohibits school districts from charging tuition fees to students who transfer under this provision

Applies beginning with the 2025-2026 school year

Takes effect immediately with two-thirds legislative vote, otherwise September 1, 2025
