Establishes a minimum one-year duration for protective orders issued under Article 7B.003 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which may remain effective for the lives of both offender and victim or for a specified period

Amends Family Code Section 85.025(a) to require protective orders be effective for not less than one year and not more than two years when a period is stated in the order

Maintains the default two-year duration for protective orders when no specific period is stated in the order

Applies only to protective orders rendered on or after September 1, 2025; orders issued before that date remain governed by prior law
