Students with seizure disorders are now entitled to possess and self-administer prescription anti-seizure medication on school property or at school-related events, expanding existing rights already granted to students with asthma or anaphylaxis

Self-administration requires the prescription medicine be labeled for that specific student, the student demonstrates competency to their physician and school nurse, and administration complies with the student's seizure management and treatment plan

Parents must provide written authorization and a signed physician statement confirming the student's seizure disorder diagnosis, capability to self-administer, medication details, dosage, timing, and prescription period

The Texas Education Agency must update the seizure management and treatment plan form by December 1, 2025 to include instructions for student self-administration of prescription anti-seizure medication

The law applies beginning with the 2025-2026 school year and takes effect immediately upon two-thirds vote or September 1, 2025
