Requires all Texas public high school students to complete at least one-half credit in "personal financial literacy & economics" as a mandatory graduation requirement under the foundation high school program

Adds economics as a separate one-credit option alongside world geography and world history, whereas previously economics was grouped with personal financial literacy as an either/or half-credit choice

Increases the total social studies credit requirements by making personal financial literacy & economics a standalone half-credit requirement rather than an alternative to economics

Applies only to students entering ninth grade during the 2025-2026 school year or later; students already in grades 10-12 during that year remain under previous graduation requirements

Takes effect immediately upon receiving a two-thirds vote in both legislative chambers, or September 1, 2025, otherwise
