Fire departments must offer annual occupational medical examinations to all certified fire fighters at no cost to the fire fighter

Required examination components include blood test, urine test, pulmonary function test, electrocardiogram, infectious disease screening, and cancer screening, with all results kept confidential

Chest x-rays must be offered once every five years as part of the examination

Texas Commission on Fire Protection must adopt rules establishing minimum standards based on National Fire Protection Association standards by January 1, 2027

Fire departments may submit alternative examination plans endorsed by a physician to the Commission by February 1 each year, with compliance required beginning February 1, 2027
