Eliminates the grade 8 social studies STAAR assessment and removes social studies from the list of subjects requiring state-developed assessment instruments

Reduces end-of-course (EOC) exams by eliminating the Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology, and U.S. History tests, replacing them with only the minimum assessments required to comply with the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

Requires the State Board of Education to automatically reduce state testing if future changes to ESSA lower federal assessment requirements

Modifies supplemental instruction requirements so districts prioritize mathematics and reading support, removing references to the eliminated Algebra I, English I, and English II courses

Removes social studies from campus distinction designations for academic achievement, limiting designations to reading, mathematics, and science; applies beginning with the 2025-2026 school year
