Elevators in buildings with four stories or less would be required to be inspected at least every five years instead of annually, to the extent authorized by the Americans with Disabilities Act and other federal law

Elevators in buildings with more than four stories would continue to require annual inspection and certification

Emergency orders directing power disconnection or lockout of elevator equipment can be issued if a five-year inspection has not been performed in more than six years (for buildings with four or fewer stories) or if an annual inspection has not been performed in more than two years (for taller buildings)

The Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation must adopt rules to implement these changes as soon as practicable after the effective date

The bill takes effect September 1, 2025
