Creates a new "extreme risk protective order" system allowing family members, household members, parents/guardians of minors in the household, or peace officers to petition courts to temporarily prohibit a person from purchasing, owning, possessing, or controlling firearms if they pose an immediate danger of causing bodily injury or death

Requires respondents subject to an extreme risk protective order to relinquish firearms to law enforcement within 24 hours and surrender any license to carry a handgun; orders are effective for one year and may be renewed for an additional year after a hearing

Expands firearm possession restrictions under existing protective orders (family violence, stalking, emergency protection) to apply to peace officers and military members only when possessing firearms for actual discharge of official duties, removing the previous exemption for sworn full-time employees

Establishes criminal offenses including a Class A misdemeanor for violating an extreme risk protective order by possessing firearms, and a Class B misdemeanor for making false statements to request an extreme risk protective order

Requires Department of Public Safety to report persons subject to extreme risk protective orders to the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System within 24 hours and suspends license to carry handgun eligibility for those under such orders
