Prohibits individuals required to register as sex offenders under Chapter 62 of the Code of Criminal Procedure from purchasing firearms as defined by Section 46.01 of the Penal Code

Requires penal institution officials to inform sex offenders being released that they are prohibited from purchasing firearms if their offense occurred on or after September 1, 2025

Mandates that local law enforcement authorities include a description of the firearm purchase prohibition when providing sex offender registration forms for verification

Applies only to persons required to register based on convictions or adjudications for offenses committed on or after September 1, 2025; offenses committed before this date remain governed by prior law

Takes effect September 1, 2025
