Requires medical directors at nursing facilities to obtain certification from the Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association or an equivalent certification approved by commission rule

Mandates completion of a commission-developed training course covering compliance with local, state, and federal laws; quality improvement processes; infection control protocols; and resident care management techniques

Exempts nursing facilities in medically underserved rural areas from the certification requirement if they demonstrate good faith recruitment efforts but cannot find a certified medical director

Requires the Health and Human Services Commission to adopt implementing rules and develop the training course by January 1, 2026

Applies only to medical directors hired on or after March 1, 2026; those hired before that date remain under existing requirements
