Narrows the firearm possession ban for felons to apply only to those convicted of specific felony offenses listed in Article 42A.054(a) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (which includes violent crimes like murder, aggravated kidnapping, sexual assault, and other serious offenses)

Maintains the existing restriction prohibiting firearm possession for the first five years after release from confinement or supervision (community supervision, parole, or mandatory supervision)

Continues to allow convicted felons to possess firearms only at their residence after the five-year waiting period

Applies to offenses committed before, on, or after the effective date, but does not affect final convictions that exist when the act takes effect

Takes effect September 1, 2025
