Expands tuition and laboratory fee exemptions for peace officers employed by Texas or its political subdivisions who are enrolled in criminal justice or law enforcement degree programs at public higher education institutions

Changes the exemption from covering only specific criminal justice courses to covering all courses taken as part of a criminal justice or law enforcement curriculum

Removes the restriction limiting the exemption to undergraduate students only, potentially extending benefits to graduate-level peace officers

Requires students to be making satisfactory academic progress and apply for the exemption at least one week before the regular registration deadline

Takes effect for the 2025 fall semester, with immediate effect if passed by two-thirds vote of both chambers, otherwise September 1, 2025
