Municipalities with populations over 1.2 million may commission investigators from their office of inspector general as peace officers with full law enforcement authority

Municipal inspector general offices are prohibited from investigating alleged misconduct by peace officers if the employing law enforcement agency maintains its own internal affairs or public integrity unit

Inspector general offices must report investigation findings to the appropriate district attorney, criminal district attorney, or county attorney

City manager and city attorney offices are prohibited from impeding the operations of the inspector general's office or its commissioned peace officer investigators

Amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to add municipal inspector general investigators to the official list of recognized peace officers in Texas, effective September 1, 2025
