Peace officers investigating family violence allegations or responding to disturbance calls potentially involving family violence must physically separate individuals at the scene to the extent practicable

Officers must interview potential victims in a manner that prevents the suspect from intimidating them while providing statements and evidence

Specific separation methods include preventing eye contact and nonverbal communication between suspect and victim, placing them in separate rooms if detained indoors, and ensuring verbal communications cannot be overheard

Physical barriers or sufficient distance must be used to prevent the suspect from communicating with the victim during the interview
