Amends Section 65.053(b) of the Texas Family Code to require prosecutors to file petitions for truant conduct adjudication with truancy courts, removing the previous discretionary authority that allowed prosecutors to decide whether to file

Eliminates the previous requirement that prosecutors inform the truancy court and school district when declining to file a petition, since filing is now mandatory

Applies beginning with the 2025-2026 school year

Takes effect immediately with a two-thirds vote of both legislative chambers, otherwise takes effect September 1, 2025
