Peace officers charged with offenses allegedly committed under color of their employment may file a motion requesting a change of venue to move their criminal trial to a different county

If the defendant and prosecutor mutually agree on a new venue within the same judicial district, the judge must order the change to that county

When parties cannot agree, the presiding judge of the judicial district must order a venue change to either a county within the same or adjoining judicial district, or to any other county after providing 10 days' notice to both parties

The law applies only to offenses committed on or after the effective date; prior offenses remain governed by existing law

Takes effect immediately upon two-thirds vote of both legislative chambers, otherwise September 1, 2025
