Expands the firearm-free zone around schools from just school property to within 1,000 feet of any public or private school premises, measured from the school's property boundary line

Creates a new offense for intentionally possessing or carrying a firearm within 1,000 feet of school premises, school-controlled grounds during school activities, or school transportation vehicles

Establishes defenses to prosecution for individuals who lawfully possess firearms on private property (residences or businesses) within the 1,000-foot zone if authorized by the property owner and not otherwise prohibited from firearm possession

Provides a defense for firearms kept in a locked container or locked trunk of a private vehicle while in transit through the prohibited zone

Maintains existing exceptions allowing school marshals and authorized personnel to carry firearms on school premises with written authorization, and updates statutory references accordingly
