Creates an exception for non-citizens who are legal permanent residents, honorably discharged veterans of the U.S. armed forces with at least two years of service, and who have applied for U.S. citizenship

Mandates that law enforcement agencies confirm they received proof of citizenship or qualifying non-citizen status before hiring any licensed peace officer

Eliminates the need to resubmit citizenship documentation for subsequent license renewals once initially verified

Takes effect July 1, 2025 if passed by two-thirds vote of both chambers, otherwise September 1, 2025
