Creates a new criminal offense (Class A misdemeanor) for knowingly possessing, selling, offering to sell, or transferring an "assault weapon" in Texas

Defines "assault weapon" to include semiautomatic centerfire rifles with detachable magazines and features like pistol grips, folding/telescoping stocks, flash suppressors, or grenade launchers; semiautomatic rifles with fixed magazines holding more than 10 rounds; semiautomatic shotguns with detachable magazines; semiautomatic pistols with certain features; revolving cylinder shotguns; and conversion kits

Provides defenses for peace officers and military members acting in official duties, and for individuals who lawfully possessed the weapon before August 31, 2025 (grandfathering existing owners)

Amends multiple Texas codes to add "assault weapons" alongside "prohibited weapons" in provisions governing weapon seizure, forfeiture, destruction, and disposition following criminal convictions

Updates Education Code to require expulsion of students who engage in conduct involving assault weapons on school property or at school-related activities, and prohibits out-of-school suspension for students below grade 3 unless involving assault weapon offenses
