Social media platforms must verify the age of all Texas residents before accepting them as account holders, using commercially reasonable methods that rely on public or private transactional data

Personal information collected for age verification can only be used for that purpose and must be deleted immediately after the verification process is complete

Parents or guardians can request deletion of their child's account (defined as under 18 years old), and platforms must comply within 10 days and cease collection of the child's personal information across all platforms

Violations are classified as deceptive trade practices under Chapter 17, enforceable by the Attorney General's consumer protection division

The requirements apply to social media platform access beginning January 1, 2026, with the act taking effect September 1, 2025
