Allows a child whose parental rights have been terminated under Chapter 161 to file a petition to change their own name if they are at least 10 years old

Permits an attorney ad litem appointed to represent the child in the termination proceeding or a managing conservator appointed under Section 161.207 to file a name change petition on behalf of the child

Requires name change petitions for children with terminated parental rights to be filed in the county where the child resides

Mandates courts to appoint an attorney ad litem to represent a child who files their own name change petition if the child does not already have legal representation

Takes effect September 1, 2025
