Requires magistrates to notify by certified mail (previously just written notice) both the person found in possession of a seized weapon and their attorney of record when no prosecution or conviction occurs, within 60 days of that determination

Mandates magistrates to order the immediate release and return of the weapon within 60 days of notification, eliminating the previous requirement that the owner submit a written request

Extends the timeframe for claiming a weapon from 61 days to one year after notification before the weapon can be destroyed, sold at public auction, or forfeited to the state

Applies to weapon dispositions on or after September 1, 2025, regardless of when the weapon was originally seized by law enforcement
