Authorizes school marshals to openly carry a handgun on school premises if wearing a uniform that identifies them as a school marshal, in addition to existing options of concealed carry or storing the weapon in a locked safe

Applies to school marshals appointed by school district boards of trustees, open-enrollment charter schools, private schools, and public junior colleges

Requires all handguns carried or possessed by school marshals to be loaded only with frangible duty ammunition approved by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement

Written regulations governing school marshal handgun carry must be adopted by the applicable governing board or body before marshals may carry

Takes effect for the 2025-2026 school year, with immediate effect if passed by two-thirds vote or September 1, 2025 otherwise
