Physicians whose practice includes treating pregnant women must complete at least 2 hours of continuing medical education on Texas adoption law when renewing their registration permit

Required education topics include termination of parental rights procedures, voluntary termination before and after birth, releasing newborns to child-placing agencies, limited post-termination contact options, and emergency infant care provider provisions for abandoned children

Education must also cover financial assistance available to expectant mothers through child-placing agencies and differences between private adoption and foster care adoption processes

New physicians must complete the 2-hour requirement in each of their first two renewal periods, with at least 1 hour completed within the first year; afterward, the requirement becomes 2 hours every 8 years

Texas Medical Board must adopt implementing rules by December 1, 2025, with the law taking effect September 1, 2025
