Property owners' associations (POAs) cannot prohibit or restrict homeowners from installing or using clotheslines for drying laundry, provided the clothesline is not visible from ground level from another lot or adjacent street

The prohibition does not apply to condominiums

POAs may still restrict clotheslines that threaten public health or safety (as adjudicated by a court), violate a law, are located on POA-owned or common property, or are visible above the fence line

POAs may prohibit or require prior approval for clotheslines located in front or side yards, or in unfenced back/side yards, or areas fenced with non-opaque materials like chain-link

Any POA provision that violates these protections is void; the act takes effect September 1, 2025
