Expands weapon carry authorization for community supervision and corrections department officers and juvenile probation officers to allow carrying regardless of whether they are actively on duty, provided they have firearms proficiency certification and supervisory approval

Prohibits establishments serving the public from restricting weapon carry by community supervision officers, juvenile probation officers, and honorably retired peace officers or qualified retired law enforcement officers who meet certification requirements

Adds juvenile probation officers to the list of protected individuals under the criminal offense of taking or attempting to take a weapon from public safety personnel

Amends the Penal Code to grant retired law enforcement officers with proper proficiency certificates and photo identification the same exemptions from weapons restrictions as active officers, including in establishments serving the public

Takes effect September 1, 2025, with provisions applying only to offenses committed or causes of action accruing on or after that date
