Requires school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to provide halal food options for breakfast and lunch programs upon request by a student or parent

Applies only to schools located wholly or partly in counties with a population of 2.1 million or more, or counties adjacent to those large counties

Defines "halal" according to the existing definition in Section 17.881 of the Business & Commerce Code

Takes effect beginning with the 2025-2026 school year

Takes effect immediately with a two-thirds vote of both legislative chambers, otherwise takes effect September 1, 2025
