Health care providers, including nurses, who review cases for the Texas Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Review Committee are exempt from professional reporting requirements for any conduct they learn about during the review process

The exemption applies specifically to information discovered while reviewing cases selected by the committee, not to information obtained outside the review context

Amends Chapter 34 of the Texas Health and Safety Code by adding new Section 34.0085

Passed the House on May 1, 2025, with a vote of 105-34, and the Senate on May 28, 2025, with a vote of 28-3

Takes effect immediately if approved by two-thirds of both chambers; otherwise takes effect September 1, 2025
