Prohibits persons required to register as sex offenders under Chapter 62 of the Code of Criminal Procedure from possessing a firearm as defined by Section 46.01 of the Penal Code

Requires penal institution officials to inform sex offenders before release that they may not possess a firearm if their reportable conviction or adjudication occurred on or after September 1, 2025

Mandates that local law enforcement authorities include a description of the firearm prohibition when providing registration verification forms to sex offenders

Applies only to persons required to register based on offenses committed on or after the effective date; those with convictions or adjudications before the effective date remain governed by prior law

Takes effect September 1, 2025
