Requires school district boards of trustees to adopt a parental leave policy for classroom teachers who do not qualify for federal FMLA leave at their current district

Extends eligibility for up to 12 weeks of parental leave to teachers who have worked at least 12 months and 1,250 hours in any Texas school district, even if they are new to their current district

Mandates that teachers must first exhaust all available paid vacation and sick leave before taking unpaid leave under this policy

Leave applies only to the birth of a child, adoption, or foster care placement, beginning on the date of that event

Takes effect for the 2025-2026 school year, with immediate effect if passed by two-thirds vote or September 1, 2025 otherwise
