Requires persons registering to vote in Texas to submit proof of citizenship to the county registrar along with their application

Acceptable proof of citizenship documents include: U.S. passport or passport card, certified birth certificate from a U.S. state, territory, or D.C., U.S. citizenship papers, identification from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, or consular report of birth abroad from the State Department

Volunteer deputy registrars must verify applicant citizenship using the required proof documents when reviewing registration applications in the applicant's presence

Takes effect January 1, 2026, contingent on voter approval of a related constitutional amendment proposed by the 89th Legislature

If the constitutional amendment is not approved by voters, this Act has no effect
