Requires sheriffs or deputies to ensure defendants discharged from mental health facilities, jail-based competency restoration programs, or outpatient competency restoration programs receive prescribed medications at the correct types and dosages

Authorizes sheriffs to compel defendants to take all prescribed medication in accordance with applicable law to ensure continuity of care

Mandates continuation of psychotropic medication for defendants being treated at time of discharge unless a jail physician directs otherwise and documents the medical justification after consulting with the prior treating physician

Changes reimbursement from being contingent on appropriated funds to requiring the commission to reimburse sheriffs for the cost of providing required medications

Effective date is September 1, 2025
