Carroll Morgan Thomas, former mayor of Midland, passed away on March 22, 2025, at age 86

Served as mayor of Midland from 1986 to 1992, during which time the city built a new central fire station, added two floors to city hall, acquired new police headquarters, and began research and design of a new air terminal facility

Earned bachelor's and master's degrees in geology from Texas Tech University and worked as a geologist, starting with Mobil Oil Corporation before establishing his own consulting practice specializing in Delaware Basin exploration

Received Honorary Lifetime Membership in the West Texas Geological Society in 1987 and served in numerous civic roles including president of the Rotary Club of Midland and chair of the Midland Planning & Zoning Commission

The 89th Texas Legislature pays tribute to his memory and extends sympathy to his surviving family, with both chambers adjourning in his honor
