Deputy Melissa Pollard of the Wood County Sheriff's Office died in the line of duty on April 9, 2025, at age 47

Pollard served 22 years in law enforcement, beginning in Collin County in 2003, transferring to Fannin County in 2013, and joining the Wood County Sheriff's Office in 2016

She earned multiple certifications including advanced peace officer, field training officer, instructor, training coordinator, jailer, and school-based law enforcement officer, and was awarded the Police Cross

She supported Project Lifesaver, which assists individuals with cognitive disorders, and advocated for animal welfare through SPCA involvement

The 89th Texas Legislature extends condolences to her family, including her daughter Sydney, three grandchildren, and directs both chambers to adjourn in her memory
