Senior Captain Edward Escamilla and firefighters Jonathan Guzman and Darren Jones of the Houston Fire Department responded to a two-alarm apartment fire in southeast Houston on January 7, 2025, at approximately 5:30 a.m.

The three firefighters entered the burning building to search for occupants and became trapped by a heavy door, issuing a distress call for rescue while their gear melted in the extreme heat

All three sustained severe burns to their hands, legs, and necks before another firefighter ripped open the door to rescue them

Following weeks of extensive treatment at Memorial Hermann Hospital's burn unit, all three firefighters were discharged

The Texas House of Representatives commends the firefighters for their courageous actions and directs that official copies of the resolution be prepared for each honoree
